TASC's Center for Health and Justice (CHJ) provides trainings as part of the $4.7 million received by Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) in 2019 to prevent opioid overdose deaths and increase access to and use of evidence-based substance use treatment programs.

Training spans suburban Cook County law enforcement and other community partners. In addition, through the establishment of regional taskforces and the deployment of outreach coordinators, the Partnerships to Prevent Opioid Overdose Deaths (P-POD) will support deflection programs to route individuals with opioid use disorders to community-based treatment providers and support those referred to treatment in accessing services and staying treatment to support those recovering from opioid use disorder.

The goal is to reduce overdose deaths and increase the number of people accessing and staying in evidence-based outpatient treatment programs. CCDPH works along with Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC) and Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to achieve these objectives.
