“Because TASC is baked into the criminal justice system in Illinois, the justice system  presents a more human face—with a focus on the individual—and promotes public  health and human rights.”

- Ambassador Adam Namm, Executive Secretary, Organization of American States  (OAS)

Deflection and Alternatives to Incarceration

At the cornerstone of our work, TASC seeks to reduce justice system involvement by diverting people away from the front end of the justice system and offering sensible alternatives to incarceration. Primarily serving individuals with substance use disorders, we advocate for people so they can get the help they need to become healthy and self-sufficient in the community.

Reaching tens of thousands of men and women across Illinois each year, TASC’s justice programs include pre-arrest diversion (i.e., deflection), prosecutorial diversion, assessment services for courts and probation, jail release services, screening services in prison, reentry services following incarceration, and more.
