Stephanie Nevilles serves as administrator of TASC’s deflection services in downstate Illinois, including sites in East Central Illinois (Charleston base), Southern Illinois (Carbondale base), and East St. Louis.

TASC deflection initiatives are community-based efforts designed specifically to “deflect” or divert people away from more deep-end systems, just as emergency rooms and jails. Deflection initiatives are collaboratively developed according to the unique needs and resources of the communities in which they operate.

TASC deflection specialists/community care coordinators working under Stephanie’s leadership work with local police and community partners to connect individuals to the services they need during their most vulnerable times. This includes reaching out to people with substance use disorders, victims of crime, and others who may be experiencing life difficulties. TASC facilitates connections to a range of services, from addiction or mental health treatment to victim support services to housing assistance. Deflection specialists also provide training on preventing opioid overdose deaths, including naloxone administration, and accessing evidence-informed substance use treatment programs.

Stephanie joined TASC as a clinical community reentry case manager for the Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center (SWICC) in 2007 and was promoted to supervisor in 2018. She is a certified alcohol and drug abuse counselor (CADC), earned her BS in sociology from Southern Illinois University (SIU-Edwardsville), and is active in her church and community.
